On Sunday, July 22, Edinburgh’s city centre will be awash with music, dance and colour as the Carnival spirit arrives in town to mark the opening of the 2012 Summer Festival season.

From 2pm to 4pm, the Edinburgh Festival Carnival will present more than 20 international and local performers, taking residents and visitors to the city on a vibrant global musical journey. There will be fun and entertainment for the family throughout the afternoon, providing a free day out, thanks to the support of City of Edinburgh Council.
Performing along Princes Street and through Princes Street Gardens, musicians, dancers, performers in costume, and various street entertainers will tour around a circuit, so that audiences staying in the same position will hear all the groups.
With a combination of professionals and amateurs, the Carnival is an adventure in rhythm and melody with music, dance, colourful costumes and street entertainment. Performers taking part include:
The Stooges - New Orleans Brass Band
Allysson Velez Drummers and Dancers – Brazilian samba team
Bandakadabra - Italian street band playing Balkan and Mediterranean music
Pink Puffers – Italian funky brass band
Junkanoo Commandos – Carnival dance troupe from The Bahamas
Jazz Combo Box - funky band with scratchophone from France
Criterion Brass Band – Edinburgh’s New Orleans Parade Band
Beat N'Blow - German street Brass Band – pop and rock hits on the move
Forth Bridges Accordion Band
Belmont Free Town Performing Arts - Trinidad and Tobago carnival dance group
Edinburgh Samba School
Gwanaval - French- Caribbean style drumming group from Martinique
Movema – A fusion of Latin American, Asian and Caribbean dancing styles.
Batala – Liverpudlian Reggae-Samba drumming group.
Edinburgh Chinese Community – Dragon and Lion Dance
Pulse of the Place – Leith’s Youth samba drumming group.
